VRO held in ACB trap for taking Rs.20K bribe in Medchal-Malkajgiri

Hyderabad: In a VRO ACB trap, the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau caught a Village Revenue Officer red-handed while accepting a Rs.20,000 bribe at the Quthbullapur Tahsil Office in Medchal-Malkajgiri district.

The accused, G. Ganesh, worked as Junior Assistant and In-charge Grama Paalana Officer at the Tahsil Office. According to ACB officials, he demanded Rs.20,000 from a complainant to process and issue a family member certificate.

VRO ACB trap exposes bribe demand

Investigators said the officer had earlier accepted Rs.5,000 as an advance. On March 2, ACB officials laid a trap and caught him while taking the remaining Rs.15,000.

The tainted cash was recovered from his possession at his instance. Officials stated that the VRO misused his official position to obtain undue advantage for performing an official favour.

The bureau registered a case and arrested the officer following the VRO ACB trap. Authorities will produce him before the Special Court for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally for judicial remand.

VRO ACB trap case under investigation

ACB officials said the investigation is ongoing to examine further aspects of the case. They withheld the identity of the complainant for security reasons.

Meanwhile, the bureau urged citizens to report corruption through its toll-free helpline 1064. It reiterated that strict action would follow against public servants involved in bribery.

Officials said the VRO reflected continued efforts to curb corruption in government offices across the State.
