Vivek Venkataswamy pushes Chennur model municipality development plan

Hyderabad: Development works accelerated in Chennur and Kyathanpalli after Labour and Mines Minister G. Vivek Venkataswamy announced plans to transform Chennur into a Chennur model municipality with improved urban infrastructure.

Local leaders and residents inaugurated solar panel high mast lights across several wards of Kyathanpalli Municipality over the past three days.

The installations covered Gadderagadi Vinayaka Colony in Ward 8 and the old vegetable market in Lenin Nagar in Ward 20. Solar lights were also installed at Kyathanpalli Cross Road, Ganesh Township, Padmavati Colony in Old Thimmapur in Ward 9 and Ganga Colony in Ward 16.

Officials said the solar lighting works were executed at an estimated cost of Rs 17.50 lakh. The initiative formed part of the broader Chennur model municipality development plan.

Residents had earlier requested improved lighting facilities in these areas. They said the new lights improved safety in public spaces.

According to locals, the lighting helped children play safely in open areas. It also improved security during community gatherings and festivals such as Bathukamma.

Chennur model municipality plan includes major infrastructure works

Similar solar high mast lights were installed in Chennur Municipality at Padmasali Kalyana Mandapam Street in Ward 9 and near Kammalolla Vada Pedda Bavi in Jendawada in Ward 2.

Congress leaders said authorities planned to install solar lights in all 18 wards. The lights would mainly cover main roads and areas lacking adequate illumination.

Municipal workers also carried out sanitation works in several neighbourhoods. They cleared sewer drains in Kajipura, Bokkalagudem and Jendawada in Ward 2.

These works formed part of the sanitation drive linked to the Chennur model municipality initiative.

Earlier in the last week of February, Minister Vivek Venkataswamy presented a development roadmap for Chennur. He asked local representatives to accelerate infrastructure projects in the town.

Officials said projects worth about Rs 50 crore had already begun. These works included borewells, cement concrete roads and side drains.

Under the AMRUT 2.0 programme, drinking water would reach every household in the town.

Authorities also planned a project to supply Godavari river water to Chennur.

In addition, the municipality would soon undertake road widening works. Community halls for various caste associations were also being built with government support.

Officials said residents would receive Godavari sand supply within six months as part of local development works.

The government also sanctioned 100 new Indiramma houses for the town.

Meanwhile, farmers in Devulawada, Babberu and Cheluk villages received compensation of about Rs 18 crore.

Authorities also planned to inaugurate a 100-bed hospital in Chennur in May as part of the Chennur model municipality development programme.
