Hyderabad: Labour and Mines Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy called for accelerating Chennur Municipality development to transform it into a model urban local body with growth across all sectors. He said ongoing works and new projects would strengthen civic infrastructure and improve public services.
The Minister made the remarks while attending the charge-taking ceremony of newly elected Municipal Chairperson Peddinti Padma in Chennur as chief guest. He congratulated the Chairperson and members of the governing body. He also thanked the people of Chennur for electing Congress representatives and advised councillors to remain accessible to residents. They must listen to grievances, identify key issues and ensure timely resolution, he said.
Vivek stated that development works were underway in all wards. He said projects worth about ₹50 crore had been grounded. Borewells, CC roads and side drain works were progressing in several areas. He assured that every household would receive drinking water under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, fulfilling an election promise.
Key projects announced for Chennur Municipality development
The Minister alleged that the previous government misused thousands of crores under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme. In contrast, he said a dedicated drinking water project based on Godavari river water would be implemented for Chennur residents. He also announced that road widening works in the town would begin shortly.
Funds have been allocated to construct community buildings for caste associations, he said. Moreover, he assured that Godavari sand would be supplied to local residents within six months in response to public demand.
Recalling earlier conditions, Vivek said roads in Maremmavada were once so poor that autos could not ply. However, he said roads were laid after his election.
The Minister announced that 100 new Indiramma houses had been sanctioned for the municipality. He said housing scheme issues were discussed in the Cabinet. He also criticised the previous government for not clearing contractors’ pending bills.
Compensation of about ₹18 crore was sanctioned and distributed to farmers of Devulawada, Babberu and Cheluk villages. In addition, he said a 100-bed hospital would be inaugurated in Chennur in May. Crematorium development works were being taken up at a cost of ₹1.20 crore.
Referring to his in-charge role in Medak district, Vivek said he had strengthened the Congress party there. Similarly, he pledged to secure more funds and speed up Chennur Municipality development. He urged all stakeholders to work unitedly in every ward to achieve overall progress in line with public aspirations.
