Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigns citing health reasons

New Delhi: Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from office on Monday, citing health concerns and medical advice. His resignation, effective immediately, was submitted to the President of India in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.

In a formal letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar stated that prioritising health care had become necessary and expressed deep gratitude for her unwavering support and the “wonderful working relationship” they shared during his tenure.

Dhankhar also extended thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Council of Ministers, noting that their cooperation had been “invaluable” and that his time in office was a period of significant learning.

He reflected on the “warmth, trust, and affection” received from Members of Parliament, calling it a lasting memory. Describing his vice-presidential tenure as a period of invaluable experiences, Dhankhar said it had been an honour to witness India’s rapid economic progress and development.

Calling the present era “transformative” in India’s history, he expressed pride in the country’s global rise and voiced confidence in its future. “Serving in this transformative era of our nation’s history has been a true honour,” the letter stated.
