Velugumatla model colony for poor to be built by Telangana government

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the Telangana government will construct a Velugumatla model colony for the poor in Khammam district headquarters so that people from across the country can visit and observe it.

He said the government would build Indiramma houses for eligible families and provide full civic infrastructure. These include electricity, drinking water, internal roads, a hospital, a community hall, and a shopping complex.

Bhatti Vikramarka directed officials to begin construction of the houses from Thursday. He also instructed them to complete the entire Velugumatla model colony by December 9.

According to him, three ministers will jointly invite Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to inaugurate the colony. The houses must be ready for housewarming ceremonies by that date, he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister added that the initiative showed the government’s commitment to improving living conditions for the poor.

Velugumatla model colony to include public school and institutions

Bhatti Vikramarka said the government would use the remaining 16 acres in Velugumatla village for public institutions. This land remains after the distribution of house sites to eligible beneficiaries.

He said a Telangana Public School and other government educational institutions will be constructed on this land to serve the area.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said officials identified 412 eligible beneficiaries in Velugumatla. Authorities distributed house site pattas to them without discrimination. Each of these beneficiaries will receive an Indiramma house in the colony.

In addition, the government issued permission letters to 101 poor beneficiaries from different districts. These families can construct Indiramma houses on available land in their respective villages.

Bhatti Vikramarka criticised the previous rulers. He said they promised houses for the poor for ten years but failed to deliver even a single house. According to him, those who failed to fulfil that promise have no moral right to criticise the present government.

He also alleged that some people are spreading misinformation to defame the government because they do not want the poor to benefit from welfare programmes.

The Deputy Chief Minister further claimed that a mafia network operated in Velugumatla for several years. He said the network collected money from poor people while failing to provide even basic facilities.

The government has now intervened to end such practices and ensure that poor families live with dignity and self-respect, he said.

Bhatti Vikramarka also urged officials and beneficiaries to remain alert. He said they must not allow any groups that exploit the poor to operate again.
