V C Sajjanar warns Hyderabad traders after 92 food adulteration cases in a month

Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar warned Hyderabad traders of strict legal action after police booked 92 food adulteration cases in one month across the city.

He addressed an awareness seminar for food business operators at the Old Police Commissionerate office in Basheerbagh as part of the H-FAST initiative. Around 200 representatives from the meat, milk, bakery products, ginger-garlic paste, and tea powder sectors attended the session.

During the address, V C Sajjanar said police seized nearly 62 tonnes of adulterated food and arrested 98 persons involved in such offences. He said these actions reflected a focused enforcement drive against unsafe practices.

He urged traders to maintain strict quality standards and act responsibly to protect public health. At the same time, he said the government remained committed to building an adulteration-free Telangana.

Meanwhile, he stressed that such violations directly endangered consumers and damaged the city’s reputation.

Further, V C Sajjanar said Hyderabad’s global image depended on maintaining food safety standards. He said every food business operator must obtain an FSSAI licence and follow regulations without exception.

He also asked traders and citizens to report any instances of adulteration to the police immediately. According to him, timely information would help authorities act faster and prevent further violations.

In addition, he assured that the police and government would support honest businesses and encourage lawful operations. However, he made it clear that authorities would act firmly against offenders.

During the interaction, business representatives raised issues they encountered on the ground. In response, he assured that officials would examine and resolve those concerns.

Traders welcomed the initiative and said they would cooperate with enforcement agencies to curb adulteration practices across Hyderabad.
