Hyderabad: Former Gannavaram MLA and YSRCP leader Vallabhaneni Vamsi was released from Vijayawada sub-jail on Wednesday after securing bail in a case related to alleged distribution of fake housing pattas during the 2019 elections.
The Nuzvid court had granted bail in the case on Tuesday, four weeks after hearings concluded. Vamsi’s legal team presented the bail orders at the jail by noon, following which he was formally released. Former minister Perni Nani and YSRCP leader Talasila Raghuram were also present at the jail.
Vamsi had been in judicial custody for around 137 days in connection with multiple cases. In recent months, he also secured bail in two other pending cases. With the fresh relief in the patta forgery case, he walked free on Wednesday afternoon.
The charges stem from accusations that Vamsi distributed counterfeit property documents to sway voters during the 2019 assembly elections in Gannavaram.
Meanwhile, in a separate matter, the Supreme Court on Wednesday heard a petition filed by the Andhra Pradesh government seeking cancellation of Vamsi’s bail in an illegal mining case. The court directed that the investigation report be submitted in a sealed cover and adjourned the hearing to July 17.
