HYDERABAD: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced that Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions will become faster starting June 16, 2025. This initiative aims to enhance the user experience by reducing the response times for key UPI-related Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
According to the NPCI circular, the response time for commonly used UPI APIs, such as Request Pay and Response Pay (covering debit and credit transactions), will be reduced from the existing 30 seconds to 15 seconds. Additionally, the response time for checking transaction status and processing reversals will be cut down to 10 seconds from the current 30 seconds.
These changes will be applicable to all remitter banks, beneficiary banks, and Payment Service Providers (PSPs) like PhonePe and Paytm. The NPCI has directed these entities to implement the necessary system upgrades to comply with the new response time standards by the specified date.
The move is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of UPI transactions, providing users with quicker transaction confirmations and a more seamless digital payment experience.
