UPI rules updated to speed up and secure transactions

Hyderabad: The central government has updated UPI rules to improve speed, security, and user transparency. The new changes, rolled out this month, shorten transaction time and tighten verification standards.

Under the revised norms, all UPI transactions must complete within 10 seconds, down from the earlier 30 seconds. Faster processing will especially benefit users during peak hours. The changes also mandate clearer consent for payments and tighter control over auto-debit requests.

Inactive UPI IDs will now face temporary suspension. To reactivate them, users must complete a fresh verification. This step aims to prevent misuse of long-dormant accounts.

Refund delays and UPI fraud prevention get attention

One major improvement under news UPI rules focuses on failed transactions. Until now, refund requests often took three to seven days. The new rules require resolution within hours. UPI apps and banks will be held accountable for any delays.

Additionally, the process for sending money requests will become more stringent. Users will see fewer unsolicited payment requests as the system restricts their volume.

The new standards also support higher-value transfers by enhancing user verification. These efforts aim to make UPI more reliable and secure for everyday and large-scale use.
