Hyderabad: Tragedy struck Adilabad district on Thursday when two women agricultural labourers were killed in separate lightning strikes as they worked in rain-soaked fields.
In Sangidi village of Bejjur mandal, Gedam Nandini was planting seeds when a sudden bolt of lightning struck, killing her instantly. In a separate incident on the same day, Kova Sunitha, who was working in a field at Sonkas village, met with a similar fate when lightning struck as she too was sowing seeds under the rain.
News of the deaths spread quickly, and devastated family members rushed to the spot, breaking down in grief at the sudden loss. Authorities and police were informed soon after.
Meanwhile, the district witnessed heavy downpours throughout the day, leaving several parts of Adilabad town waterlogged.
