Hyderabad: Two persons were electrocuted and eight others seriously injured in Korutla, Jagitial district, on Sunday after a Ganesh idol being shifted came into contact with an overhead high-tension power line.
According to police, Vinod Alwala (32), who runs the Sri Balaji Ganesh idol manufacturing unit on the outskirts of Korutla, was shifting a large Ganesh idol along with nine labourers. While moving the idol to another shed, it struck a 33/11 KV power line running overhead.
As the idol was wet, the live current passed through the structure and electrocuted the workers. The force of the shock threw several of them to the ground.
Locals who noticed the accident rushed the injured to nearby hospitals. Vinod and a worker, Sai Kumar, died on the way. Of the remaining injured, six were shifted to hospitals in Hyderabad, Karimnagar, and Warangal for better treatment.
