Two held with ₹2 lakh counterfeit currency in Mehdipatnam, key supplier absconding

Hyderabad: Two men were arrested with ₹2 lakh in counterfeit currency near Ramalayam in Sriram Nagar, First Lancer area of Hyderabad’s Mehdipatnam on Friday evening. Police seized 400 fake ₹500 notes, along with three mobile phones and a two-wheeler.

The accused were identified as Ansari Aftab Azeemuddin (22) of Aurangabad, Maharashtra, and Adil Hussain (22), a student from Langer House, Hyderabad. A third suspect, Akash from Aurangabad, is absconding.

Acting on credible information, police apprehended the duo while they were waiting to sell fake currency near Ramalayam. Investigation revealed they were attempting to trade counterfeit notes at a rate of ₹30,000 in real currency for every ₹1 lakh in fake notes. The notes were allegedly procured from Akash.

The arrests were made on July 19 at around 7:10 PM. A case has been registered under Cr. No. 208/2025 at Mehdipatnam Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused have been remanded to judicial custody.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of DCP South West Zone G. Chandra Mohan, with additional oversight by Addl. DCP Krishna Goud, ACP B. Kishan Kumar (Asifnagar Division), and SHO S. Mallesh, along with the crime team of Mehdipatnam PS.
