Hyderabad: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams cautioned devotees against fake Tirumala websites offering accommodation and darshan bookings, after a Kerala pilgrim reported being cheated.
The complaint was lodged by Sri C.K. Suresh Babu from Kerala, who alleged that a person promised rooms under the name “Karnataka Pravasi Soudha” in Tirumala. Following the complaint, the TTD Vigilance Department conducted an inquiry into the matter.
Officials found that unauthorised individuals had created fake Tirumala websites using temple images and the TTD name to mislead pilgrims. These websites appeared in Google search results and collected money through online payment modes.
Fake Tirumala websites under police scrutiny
In response, the TTD IT Department lodged complaints with police seeking action against those operating the fake websites. Authorities also registered cases under the Copyright Act against portals that illegally used TTD logos and temple photographs.
TTD reiterated that devotees must book darshan, accommodation and seva tickets only through its official website. It urged pilgrims to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious websites, phone calls or offers to temple authorities.
Officials advised devotees to verify details carefully before making online payments to prevent further fraud.
