10-year-old tribal girl tortured in Nellore on theft suspicion

Hyderabad: A 10-year-old tribal girl from a Scheduled Tribe colony in Nellore district’s Indukurupeta mandal was brutally tortured on suspicion of stealing a mobile phone. The incident occurred at Kakarla Dibbala village and has sparked outrage after a video of the child’s injuries surfaced on social media.

The girl, identified as Chenchamma from Kudithepalem, was allegedly stripped and burned with a heated iron rod on her body and face. Despite repeatedly denying the allegation, she was subjected to physical abuse, the child said while showing her injuries on video.

Following her mother’s remarriage, Chenchamma had been staying with her paternal aunt, Sannari Manikyam. Police sources say the woman had a pattern of abusing the child. Based on a complaint, a case has been registered against the aunt and three others.

The police have launched an investigation. Social media users have reacted sharply to the visuals, questioning how such brutality could be inflicted on a child.
