Hyderabad: The Transport Department intensified inspections on AC sleeper buses following reports of irregularities, registering 32 cases and imposing ₹1 lakh in compounding fees. Joint teams of the RTA and DTC carried out large-scale checks across Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts on Sunday.

In Ranga Reddy district, the DTC booked seven cases and collected ₹35,000 in fines. Officials said the absence of fire extinguishers was identified as the main violation during the operation.
RTA South Zone identifies safety lapses
The RTA South Zone registered 11 cases and levied ₹31,000 in compounding fees. Violations included driving without a uniform and failure to equip buses with fire safety devices.
East Zone and other areas were also penalised
In the East Zone, officials booked three cases and collected ₹3,000 in penalties. Inspections at various other locations resulted in 11 more cases, bringing in an additional ₹31,000. Authorities stated that the enforcement drive will continue to curb safety and permit violations among private sleeper bus operators.
