TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud to brief Congress top brass on Telangana caste census

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president Mahesh Kumar Goud is heading to New Delhi to brief top party leaders on the state’s caste census model – a move that could influence the Congress party’s national agenda.

The presentation, scheduled to take place at Indira Bhavan, will be attended by senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, along with national spokespersons and party officials from across the country.

Goud’s briefing is expected to highlight Telangana’s approach to caste data collection, as the state government – led by the Congress – pushes ahead with plans to conduct a detailed caste census and implement 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs).

Party insiders say the initiative is a dual-purpose play: it aims to strengthen governance through inclusive policy while also resonating with voters who’ve long demanded fairer representation.

The Telangana model is now being watched closely as a potential blueprint for the Congress party’s broader national strategy – marking a key moment where local policy could shape the party’s stance in other states.
