TPCC chief hails Telangana’s 42% BC quota as start of social revolution

Hyderabad: TPCC President and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud on Thursday welcomed the Telangana Cabinet’s decision to implement 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections, calling it a landmark moment in the state’s political history.

He described the ordinance amending the 2018 Panchayat Raj Act to facilitate this reservation as the “beginning of a social revolution.” Goud said the move delivers long-awaited justice to BC communities, which comprise more than half the state’s population.

Goud noted that Telangana is the first state in India to implement such extensive reservations based on population figures. He credited AICC leader Rahul Gandhi for first raising this demand during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

He thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and Cabinet Ministers for their decisive role in making this policy a reality.

Urging BC communities to recognise the Congress Party’s long-standing commitment to social equity, he called on the people of Telangana to stand with the party that has consistently championed backward class rights.
