Hyderabad: Telangana Revenue, Housing and Information Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a 100-bed Tirumalayapalem hospital to be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹26 crore.
Speaking at a public meeting organised after the ceremony at Tirumalayapalem mandal headquarters, the minister said the project aimed to improve access to advanced healthcare for residents of surrounding tribal and rural areas. He said people from these areas earlier had to travel long distances to Khammam for emergency treatment, often during late-night medical situations.
The minister said the government intended to ensure that quality healthcare facilities were available closer to people’s homes. He said the objective was to provide medical services at a level comparable to corporate hospitals within government institutions.
Facilities planned in Tirumalayapalem hospital
Recalling earlier conditions, the minister said the existing hospital functioned with only 30 beds and limited facilities. As a result, patients frequently travelled to private hospitals in Khammam for deliveries and emergency treatment.
He said the new Tirumalayapalem hospital would include upgraded medical infrastructure and modern equipment. Dialysis units and other advanced treatment facilities would become available within the next few months once construction and installations were completed.
The minister also addressed medical staff and stressed the importance of their availability at the hospital. He said that government investment in hospital infrastructure would achieve its purpose only when doctors remained accessible to patients.
He asked doctors and hospital staff to reside at the headquarters rather than commuting from distant locations. He noted that government hospitals in Cherla, Manuguru and Yellandu had achieved positive results through committed medical services.
According to him, similar dedication from staff would help the Tirumalayapalem facility serve the local population effectively. He also said he would personally recognise and reward staff members who performed their duties with sincerity.
Government focus on healthcare and education
Ponguleti said the state government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy prioritised quality education and healthcare for economically weaker sections. He said improving public infrastructure in these sectors remained a key policy focus.
He added that the government had made notable progress in strengthening infrastructure during the past two years and three months. He also said the administration expected government employees to discharge their responsibilities effectively while delivering services to the public.
The minister instructed the contractor to begin construction work in March and complete the project on a priority basis. He set a target to finish the building and open the hospital by December.
Later, the minister distributed Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak financial assistance cheques to eligible beneficiaries.
Additional Collector Srinivas Reddy, DMHO Rama Rao, Irrigation Department Executive Engineer Banala Ramesh Reddy, Tahsildar Luther Wilson, MPDO Silar Saheb, PHC in-charge Krupa Ushasri and several local representatives and officials attended the programme.
