Three workers killed in suspected quarry blast in Meliyaputti

Srikakulam: A major explosion occurred at the Dubbaguda granite quarry in Meliyaputti mandal of Srikakulam district. Three workers died on the spot. They were identified as Appanna and Ramarao from Tekkali, and Murugan from Tamil Nadu.

The quarry management claims no blast took place. They say lightning struck the site, causing the deaths.

But the state of the bodies raised suspicion. The remains were found scattered. Families of the deceased reached the quarry and began a protest. They alleged that the deaths were caused by a blast. Accused the management of suppressing the facts. Questioned why the bodies were brought down from the hill instead of officials inspecting the spot directly.

The atmosphere turned tense. Police reached the quarry. Spoke to the relatives. Sent the bodies for post-mortem. Said the actual cause would be known from the report.
