Hyderabad, January 28: Telangana cricketer Gongadi Trisha made a remarkable impact in the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup on Tuesday. In the Super Six match against Scotland, Trisha scored an unbeaten century off just 53 balls, becoming the first woman cricketer to score a century in the tournament’s history. She also showcased her bowling skills by taking three wickets.
The match, held in Malaysia, saw India take on Scotland after the latter won the toss and opted to field. Indian openers Kamalini and Gongadi Trisha dominated from the start, putting up an impressive opening partnership. By the end of the powerplay, India had reached a strong position at 67/0. By the 10th over, the team had accelerated further, achieving 104 runs without losing a wicket.
The opening pair set a record for the highest partnership in the tournament, adding an unbeaten 147 runs for the first wicket. Trisha was the star of the innings, smashing 110 runs off 59 balls, which included 13 fours and 4 sixes. Kamalini contributed 51 runs off 42 balls, while Sanika Chalke added a quick-fire 29 off 20 balls. India ended their innings with a commanding total of 208/1 in 20 overs.
Chasing a steep target, Scotland struggled to gain momentum and were bowled out for just 58 runs. India’s bowlers put on an equally impressive performance. Ayushi Shukla claimed 4 wickets for just 8 runs in her 3 overs, while Vaishnavi Sharma took 3 wickets for 5 runs. Trisha also contributed with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 6 runs in her 2 overs, completing an all-round performance.
India’s dominant victory in the Super Six stage solidifies their position as one of the tournament favourites. Gongadi Trisha’s stellar performance has drawn widespread praise, particularly for her historic century and impactful bowling.
