Hyderabad: Telangana Agriculture Minister T. Nageshwar Rao has urged the Central government to ensure the full and timely supply of urea fertiliser allocated to the state for the crucial kharif season.
In a letter addressed to Union Minister J.P. Nadda, Rao highlighted that although the Centre had allocated 9.80 lakh metric tonnes of urea for the season, only a partial quantity has been delivered so far. Specifically, Telangana was to receive 1.70 lakh metric tonnes for April and 1.60 lakh metric tonnes for May. However, actual supplies have fallen short, with just 1.20 lakh metric tonnes delivered in April and 0.52 lakh metric tonnes in May to date.
The minister said that the state’s agricultural officials have repeatedly communicated the urgency of the situation to the Centre and have requested immediate dispatches to bridge the shortfall. He stressed that the Telangana government aims to stock 4 to 5 lakh metric tonnes of urea ahead of the kharif sowing period, as it did last year, to avoid any disruption for farmers.
Rao assured that urea will be supplied as per demand throughout the season and that the government is committed to timely distribution, ensuring that farmers do not face any difficulties during the sowing period.
