HYDERABAD: Unseasonal rains across Telangana have caused extensive damage to crops and livestock, dealing a heavy blow to farmers in multiple districts.
In Hanamkonda district, several villages in the Bhimadevarapally mandal reported severe losses after paddy and maize crops were drenched by unexpected downpours. Strong winds also knocked mangoes off trees, resulting in further agricultural losses.
In Mutharam village, a farmer’s paddy crop spread across 1.5 acres was reduced to ashes after being struck by lightning.
In Siddipet district, paddy stored at the IKP centre in Raigonda was washed away by rainwater. Farmers have urged the government to procure the rain-damaged crops to help mitigate their losses.
Tragedy struck in Renikunta village of Rajapet mandal in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, where lightning killed 50 goats belonging to a farmer named Malliah. In another incident, a farmer named Narsaiah lost his cows in Challur village.
Farmers across the affected regions are calling on the authorities to take swift action and provide compensation for both crop and livestock losses.
