Hyderabad: The Telangana government will begin distributing new ration cards from July 14, starting with verified applicants in Suryapet district. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is set to launch the rollout during a public programme in Tungaturthi.
The initiative follows the government’s decision to issue ration cards to all eligible applicants across the state. Officials said the process of applying, verifying, and distributing cards will remain continuous.
The Civil Supplies Department clarified that the cards to be distributed on July 14 are only for those who have completed verification. So far, the state has received lakhs of applications, with nearly 2.5 lakh from Hyderabad alone. Currently, about 5,000 to 6,000 new applications are being filed daily through Mee Seva centres.
In Hyderabad, officials reported that 6,39,451 ration cards are active across nine circles. An additional 29,287 new cards will be distributed within these circles on July 14. Authorities project that over one lakh new cards will be issued over the next year.
However, the distribution of rationed goods to new cardholders will begin only in September. The government had already supplied rations for three months to existing cardholders last month. Supplies will resume in September for all eligible beneficiaries, including the newly issued cards.
Officials confirmed that ASOs are reviewing applications and assigning field verification to Revenue Inspectors, who visit applicant addresses before final approval.
