Telangana targets 100 new GCCs in Hyderabad within a year, says Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has set a target of attracting 100 new GCCs in Hyderabad within a year, IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu announced on Friday.

The government aims to attract multinational companies to establish and expand core business operations, research facilities and product development activities in the city. Sridhar Babu announced the target after inaugurating the India office of New York-based Pico Technology at Hitech City on November 6.

Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also attended the inauguration. The IT Minister said the government wanted to move beyond conventional service centres and develop Hyderabad into a global centre for technology, research and innovation.

Government targets 100 new GCCs in Hyderabad

Sridhar Babu said the government was working to attract new GCCs in Hyderabad while encouraging multinational companies to expand higher-value business functions. The proposed expansion would focus on product development, engineering, data analytics, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

He said the government wanted Global Capability Centres to assume greater responsibility within their parent organisations. These centres would increasingly handle technology development, strategic decision-making and other core functions instead of conventional support services.

Additionally, the Minister said Hyderabad was being positioned as a global hub for value creation. He stressed that the government’s strategy involved attracting investments in research, innovation and advanced technology operations.

The proposed 100 centres would form part of the government’s efforts to strengthen Hyderabad’s role in multinational business operations. Speaking at the inauguration, Sridhar Babu recalled discussions held with Pico Technology representatives earlier this year.

He said the talks had focused on investment opportunities and the company’s expansion plans in Hyderabad. Those discussions had now resulted in the establishment of the company’s India office in the city.

The Minister assured Pico Technology of the Telangana government’s full support for expanding its operations in the state. Headquartered in New York, Pico Technology provides technology infrastructure, software, data and analytics services to financial institutions worldwide.

The company operates in more than 30 countries and serves over 350 organisations. Its Hyderabad office forms part of the company’s expansion of operations in India.

Ministers highlight employment and skill development

Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said Pico Technology’s expansion in Hyderabad would create international employment opportunities. He also said the company’s presence would provide avenues for skill development among local youth.

Meanwhile, the state government was working to strengthen infrastructure and support companies investing in Telangana. Venkat Reddy said the government remained committed to providing the necessary assistance to businesses establishing or expanding their operations.

He added that infrastructure development would support industrial expansion and economic growth. The government’s plan to attract new GCCs in Hyderabad also seeks to increase the city’s participation in global technology development.

Sridhar Babu said the focus would remain on encouraging multinational companies to locate research, engineering and other strategic operations in Hyderabad.
