Telangana schools and colleges get three-day holiday for Milad-un-Nabi and Ganesh immersion

Hyderabad: Telangana has declared a three-day holiday for all government and private schools and colleges from September 5 to 7 due to upcoming festivals and the weekend.

Milad-un-Nabi, which celebrates the birth of Prophet Muhammad, falls on September 5. The state will observe this as a public holiday.

On September 6, schools and colleges will close again for Ganesh idol immersion. Hyderabad, in particular, expects massive processions that will impact city traffic.

Since September 7 is a Sunday, the back-to-back holidays will give students and staff an extended weekend.

The holiday order applies to all levels of education, including primary, secondary, and higher education institutions. Both public and private campuses will remain shut. Educational offices under the state government will also close during this period.

Students will benefit from a short break in the middle of the academic term. The state often issues such holiday schedules during major religious events to maintain public order and reduce traffic congestion.

Officials have asked school managements to update their academic calendars to reflect the changes. They have also urged parents to keep their children safe during immersion processions, which typically draw large crowds and heavy vehicles.

So far, the school term calendar remains unchanged. However, authorities may make adjustments if future events or weather disruptions require further closures.
