HYDERABAD, February 6: The Central government has allocated an incentive of ₹176.5 crore to Telangana for successfully implementing the vehicle scrappage policy. This incentive was granted as the state achieved a key milestone by scrapping vehicles older than 15 years.
According to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Telangana is among the states actively promoting the scrappage of outdated vehicles to reduce pollution and improve road safety. The initiative is part of a nationwide effort to phase out old and unfit vehicles, ensuring a cleaner environment and better vehicle management.
The state government has been facilitating the smooth implementation of the scrappage policy by encouraging vehicle owners to voluntarily surrender outdated vehicles. This move aligns with the Centre’s broader goal of promoting sustainable transport solutions across the country.
Officials have stated that the ₹176.5 crore incentive will further strengthen the transport sector in Telangana and support infrastructure improvements. More measures are expected to be announced to enhance vehicle fitness and road safety in the state.
