Hyderabad: The ‘Grama Gramana Nanyamaina Vithanam’ (Quality Seed in Every Village) programme, a major seed distribution initiative aimed at progressive farmers, concluded successfully on Thursday, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture in collaboration with Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University, began on June 2 and culminated with formal seed distribution ceremonies held across districts by ministers, local representatives, and officials.
In a statement, the Minister said that around 2,500 quintals of high-quality seeds had been distributed to 35,000 selected farmers in every revenue village across Telangana. He detailed that approximately 20,000 seed kits for paddy, 1,522 for jowar, 4,568 for red gram, and 8,910 for green gram were distributed. Among districts, Nalgonda received the highest allocation with 2,192 kits, while Medchal Malkajgiri received the least at 379.
The Minister noted that plans to roll out the seed distribution programme had been in the works for the past four months to ensure that farmers received top-quality seeds on time. He credited the success of the initiative to the concerted efforts of the Agricultural University and the Department of Agriculture.
Tummala Nageswara Rao expressed confidence that the University would continue to introduce innovative programmes to support farmers in the future.
