HYDERABAD: The Telangana Prisons Department has been honoured with the prestigious SKOCH Award at the 100th SKOCH Summit held in New Delhi, in recognition of its outstanding work on the “Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Prisoners into Society.”
The landmark summit, themed “Navigating New Frontiers in Economic Justice and Legal Frameworks,” brought together thought leaders and policymakers to deliberate on transformative reforms. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Sameer Kochhar, Chairman of the SKOCH Group, while the inaugural keynote address was delivered by Mr. Ajay Seth, Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.
Out of 250 government initiatives submitted from across the country, the Telangana Prisons Department emerged as a winner for its impactful rehabilitation model, which focuses on equipping former inmates with skills, psychological support, and community-based reintegration measures. The award not only celebrates administrative excellence but also highlights the department’s commitment to human dignity and second chances.
Dr. Soumya Mishra, , Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Telangana, along with M. Sampath, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, received the award on behalf of the department.
Through its comprehensive approach involving skill development, counselling, and reintegration support, the Telangana Prisons Department continues to set benchmarks in correctional administration. The SKOCH Award affirms the department’s role as a leader in promoting restorative justice and sustainable rehabilitation practices.
