Hyderabad: Telangana police have secured the top rank in passport verification nationwide, according to an official statement from the DGP’s office on Monday.
The force has been selected for the “Gold Standard” award, to be presented on Tuesday in New Delhi by the Union Minister for External Affairs during Passport Seva Divas. DGP Intelligence B Shivadhar Reddy will receive the certificate on behalf of the state.
Senior officials attributed the recognition to the successful deployment of the VeriFast mobile application. They said the app has streamlined passport verification, making the process faster, more accurate, and transparent.
According to the department, Telangana leads in speed, completing most verifications within three working days — the fastest rate in the country. On average, 2,000 verifications are handled daily, with over 8 lakh cases processed annually.
The VeriFast app supports Android, iOS, Windows, and Linux platforms, and is integrated with criminal intelligence databases to identify applicants with past offences. Officials described the app as a benchmark for the state police’s technical capabilities.
They added that the initiative reflects the state government’s broader push toward technology-driven public services.
