Hyderabad: Telangana’s celebrated poet and lyricist Ande Sri received state honours at his final rites held in NFC Nagar, Ghatkesar, on Tuesday. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, ministers, senior Congress leaders, and hundreds of admirers attended the ceremony to bid him farewell.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy paid floral tributes to Ande Sri and personally carried his bier during the procession. He consoled the grieving family, holding them close and offering words of comfort. Ministers D. Sridhar Babu, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Adluri Laxman Kumar, and Jupally Krishna Rao joined him in honouring the late poet.
Senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao, literary enthusiasts, and thousands of followers also took part in the funeral. All participants observed two minutes of silence in remembrance. Later, the police honoured the poet with three ceremonial gun salutes, marking the state’s final gesture of respect.
Final journey from Lalapet to Ghatkesar
Ande Sri’s son performed the last rites, concluding the ceremony. The funeral procession began in Lalapet, passing through Tarnaka and Uppal before reaching Ghatkesar. Earlier in the day, ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Seethakka, and senior leader K. Keshava Rao paid their respects at Lalapet and accompanied the procession.
Ande Sri, known for his powerful poetry and songs celebrating Telangana’s culture and spirit, continues to inspire generations of writers and artists across the state.
