Minister reviews organ transplant policy, clinical establishments in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha held a high-level meeting at the Secretariat to review the organ transplant policy framework under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act and the implementation of the Clinical Establishments Act.

Senior officials from the health department and representatives of private hospitals attended the meeting.

The minister discussed issues related to organ transplant treatments with hospital managements and officials.

He instructed authorities to simplify procedures in order to encourage organ donations across the state.

Organ transplant policy discussed with private hospitals

The minister directed officials to prepare a comprehensive policy to ensure the effective implementation of organ donation laws in Telangana.

He said the state should develop a system that can make Telangana a model for organ transplant services in the country.

During the meeting, officials and private hospital representatives also discussed the functioning of the organ donation system in the state.

The minister expressed concern over the high costs charged for transplant procedures in private hospitals.

He asked hospital managements to ensure reasonable pricing so that common people can afford organ transplant treatment.

The minister also urged hospitals to take steps to ensure that donated organs are not wasted.

Officials discussed the need to develop new guidelines for patients arriving from other countries for transplant procedures.

The minister also reviewed issues faced by private hospitals and assured them that the state government would extend necessary support for organ transplant services.

He said the government had already granted permission to four hospitals in the state to conduct hand transplant procedures.

Clinical Establishments Act implementation reviewed

The minister also discussed the implementation of the Clinical Establishments Act with private hospital managements.

He directed officials to take steps to ensure effective enforcement of the law across Telangana.

The minister said treatment costs in private hospitals should not become a burden for ordinary people.

He said the government had begun efforts to regulate tariffs for medical treatments in private hospitals across the state.

Health Secretary Christina Z Chongthu, Director of Medical Education Narendra Kumar, Jeevandan Director Sri Bhushan Raj and Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Commissioner Ajay Kumar attended the meeting along with representatives of private hospitals.
