Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has put Telangana on alert as scattered showers and gusty winds are expected to lash several districts over the next five days. After a brief spell of sunshine and soaring temperatures that had left residents reeling under the heat, a fresh spell of monsoon showers is set to make a comeback.
Officials at the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre said that the current break in the rains was temporary, with atmospheric conditions once again favouring precipitation across the state. The return of the south-west monsoon has sparked optimism among residents, who had been grappling with relentless heat.
A surface trough extending from south-central Maharashtra to coastal Andhra Pradesh via north interior Karnataka and Telangana has strengthened at an altitude of 1.5 kilometres above mean sea level. This trough is expected to draw moisture-laden winds, bringing relief to parched regions.
At the same time, a cyclonic circulation over north interior Karnataka and surrounding areas at a height of 3.1 kilometres has weakened, but this is unlikely to dent the expected rain activity. The Met office forecasts scattered showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, with winds gusting at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.
Saturday could see rain showers sweeping across Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Suryapet, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahbubnagar, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts.
As the week progresses, these scattered showers are likely to continue across various districts. On Sunday, rainfall is expected to hit Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and Hyderabad among others, with gusty winds accompanying the downpour.
Monday’s forecast brings a similar outlook, with moderate rain anticipated in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahbubnagar, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Janagaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, and surrounding districts.
Tuesday is likely to see rain clouds gathering over Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Hyderabad, and several other districts. Wednesday could bring showers to Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and a wide swath of southern Telangana, including Mahbubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, and others.
In response to these forecasts, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for all the affected districts, urging residents to stay prepared for sudden downpours, thunder, and strong winds.
