Hyderabad: The Telangana government will confer the Konda Laxman Bapuji Award 2026 on August 7 to mark National Handloom Day and has invited applications from eligible weavers and designers.
The award will recognise excellence in handloom weaving and designing for the year 2026. Officials released detailed eligibility criteria along with the announcement.
Weavers aged above 30 years as on December 31, 2025 must have at least 10 years of experience in handloom weaving to qualify. Designers aged above 25 years as on the same date must have a minimum of five years of experience in designing.
Applicants must submit the prescribed proforma to the concerned District Assistant Director (H&T) on or before March 31, 2026. Authorities will scrutinise applications before final selection.

The State instituted this award to honour outstanding contribution to the handloom sector. Officials said the award aims to encourage innovation and sustained craftsmanship.
Moreover, the initiative seeks to motivate artisans and designers to preserve traditional skills while adapting to changing market demands. The government urged eligible candidates to apply within the stipulated deadline.
