Telangana undertakes complex irrigation projects, partners with SYSTRA for tech boost

Hyderabad: Telangana is pushing ahead with some of India’s most complex infrastructure projects, especially in irrigation, Irrigation Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said Thursday at the launch of SYSTRA’s Global Digital Tools Centre in Hyderabad.

Uttam inaugurated the India office of SYSTRA, a French engineering major known for its global leadership in metro design and project management consultancy. With operations in over 70 countries and a €1.25 billion revenue, SYSTRA handles every second metro project worldwide and has designed 80% of Indian metro systems.

Welcoming SYSTRA’s arrival, Uttam said the Telangana government would fully support international players driving large-scale infrastructure. He highlighted the need for precision in local projects. “Irrigation works in India are not straightforward. They involve unpredictable terrain, environmental factors, and scale,” he said.

Drawing from his Air Force background, Uttam praised French engineering, noting his familiarity with it through flying fighter jets. “It’s good to see that culture now present in Telangana,” he said.

He noted Hyderabad’s law and order, infrastructure, and climate made it a natural hub for global firms. “SYSTRA’s presence enhances Telangana’s standing in international infrastructure,” he said.

The minister called for a sustained partnership, inviting SYSTRA to contribute to both metro and irrigation sectors. “Let’s deliver better projects together,” he said.

Senior SYSTRA leadership, including India CEO Hari, attended the event.
