Telangana Higher Education Council plans new courses

Hyderabad: Telangana Higher Education Council unveiled a plan to introduce new courses in emerging areas to enhance employability among youth.

The Higher Education Council discussed the proposal during a T-SAT live programme on UG and PG courses in new and emerging fields. Chairman Prof V Balakista Reddy outlined the roadmap before council members.

He said the council is designing around 39 courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students. These courses align with the State’s long-term development goals.

The chairman said 19 courses will target undergraduate students, while 10 courses will cater to postgraduate levels. In addition, the council will introduce another 10 courses under Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programmes.

He said the initiative aims to create employment opportunities and prepare youth for future industries. The plan also aligns with the State’s Vision 2047 goals.

Officials said investments worth ₹3 lakh crore could generate up to 20 lakh jobs by 2030. Therefore, the council aims to equip students with relevant skills to meet this demand.

Vice Chairman Prof S K Mahmood said the council is guiding universities to introduce specialised courses in cyber security, cyber crime and data science. Meanwhile, Vice Chairman Itikyala Purushottam stressed the need for skill-based education.

He said degrees without practical skills will not ensure employment. Secretary Prof Sriram Venkatesh directed institutions to maintain proper lab facilities for all courses.

He added that the council will closely monitor implementation to ensure quality teaching, research and academic participation.
