Telangana heatwave alert prompts public health advisory

Hyderabad: The Telangana heatwave alert prompted the Health Department to issue a public advisory as temperatures are expected to rise by 2–3°C over the next three days.

Ravinder Naik, Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, advised people to avoid stepping outdoors between 12 PM and 3 PM. He also urged residents to remain in cool, ventilated spaces and limit physical activity during peak heat hours.

He stressed the importance of hydration. People should drink water frequently, even if they do not feel thirsty. In addition, he recommended using oral rehydration solutions and consuming lemon water, buttermilk and fruit juices.

At the same time, officials advised avoiding alcohol, caffeine and sugary or high-protein foods. They also recommended wearing light, loose cotton clothing and covering the head while outdoors.

Residents were asked to carry water during travel and schedule outdoor activities during early morning or evening hours. These steps, officials said, would help reduce heat-related risks under the Telangana heatwave alert.

Authorities urged citizens to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as vomiting or dehydration occur. They directed people to visit the nearest government health centre in such cases.

Meanwhile, public hospitals have been equipped with special beds, IV fluids and essential medicines. Officials said frontline workers, including ANMs, ASHAs and Anganwadi staff, are distributing ORS sachets to support preventive care.

Health officials said sustained awareness and precautionary measures remain critical as temperatures continue to rise under the Telangana heatwave alert.
