Hyderabad: The Telangana government filled 9,572 posts in the health department over the last two years, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha announced on Tuesday. He said the recruitment drive fulfilled a key commitment to unemployed youth and aimed to strengthen public healthcare delivery.
The minister addressed a gathering at Osmania Medical College in Koti, where he distributed appointment letters to 1,257 newly selected Grade-II Lab Technicians. He noted that the selection process moved at an unprecedented pace. Of the 23,323 candidates who took the exam, 1,257 secured appointments.
Telangana health department posts to increase further
Rajanarasimha emphasised the importance of lab technicians in modern healthcare. “Accurate diagnosis drives effective treatment. Your reports form the core of medical decisions,” he told the new recruits. He also urged them to help upgrade government laboratories to NABL standards.
Recruitment is ongoing for another 7,267 posts. Additionally, the finance department approved 996 more vacancies, and notifications for these will be issued soon.
Government expands Healthy Telangana initiatives
The minister said the hiring aligns with Telangana’s broader goal of a ‘Healthy Telangana’. He outlined several initiatives now in progress:
- Construction of a new Osmania Hospital
- Enhanced ₹10-lakh coverage under Aarogyasri
- Establishment of NCD clinics and cancer day-care centres
- Maitri clinics offering healthcare to transgender persons
- Free IVF treatment in public hospitals
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and MP Anil Kumar Yadav joined Rajanarasimha at the event and congratulated the newly appointed staff.
