Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has issued notice to the state government for failing to hold municipal elections even after the expiry of their term.
During a hearing on a petition challenging the delay, the court asked the government to explain why polls were not conducted within the scheduled timeframe, given that the municipal governing bodies’ term had ended on January 26 this year.
The court has postponed further hearing in the matter to July 11 after seeking a detailed response on the reasons for the delay.
Two days ago, the High Court had also expressed displeasure with the government over delays in holding elections for local bodies, including sarpanches, and directed that those polls be completed by September 30.
The latest notice on municipal elections has heightened speculation of a politically charged atmosphere across the state.
