Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday deferred the hearing to Friday on a set of petitions linked to the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) Group-1 recruitment. Several candidates alleged they were denied proper marks, particularly those who appeared in Telugu medium.
Senior counsel S. Niranjan Reddy, appearing for TSPSC, told the court that there was no discrepancy in the number of candidates who wrote the test. He said the Commission had submitted full details based on nominal rolls and candidates’ fingerprint data.
He rejected claims that a larger number of selected candidates came from a centre at Koti. According to him, two centres in Koti had around 1,500 candidates appearing for the mains, while more candidates were picked from other centres. He clarified that the Koti centres were reserved for women candidates for logistical reasons and no irregularities occurred. He argued that candidates who failed to secure jobs were raising baseless suspicions without factual backing.
The court was informed that of those selected for Group-1, 9.95% were Telugu medium candidates, 89.88% English medium, and 0.1% Urdu medium. TSPSC maintained there was no discrimination among Telugu, English or Urdu medium candidates, stating that marks were awarded purely on evaluation criteria set by experts.
The bench questioned whether any clear guidelines were issued to evaluators. Niranjan Reddy assured the court that TSPSC would collect relevant details and submit them in a sealed cover. Following this, the High Court adjourned the matter to Friday.
