Hyderabad: The Telangana government has appointed whips in both the Legislative Council and Assembly to strengthen coordination and ensure smooth conduct of proceedings.
The government named MLCs Addanki Dayakar and Balmuri Venkat as whips in the Legislative Council. Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao issued orders to this effect, which came into force from March 18.
At the same time, the government also appointed three MLAs as Assembly whips. Peddapalli MLA Vijayaramana Rao, Mahabubnagar MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy and Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham were given these responsibilities.
Telangana govt whips to ensure floor coordination
Whips play a key role in maintaining party discipline in the House. They ensure that party members attend important sessions and follow the official line during debates and voting.
They also coordinate legislative business and help the government pass bills smoothly. Therefore, their role becomes crucial during budget sessions and key discussions.
The government entrusted these responsibilities to experienced leaders. As a result, it aims to strengthen its control in the House and improve coordination.
The appointments have gained significance in view of ongoing and upcoming Assembly sessions. The newly appointed leaders expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the party leadership.
