Telangana disaster institute plan to boost high-tech response systems

Hyderabad: The Telangana disaster institute plan was announced on Friday, with the State proposing to establish a global-standard disaster management institute equipped with advanced response systems.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the government will set up a State Institute of Disaster Management (SIDM) to strengthen preparedness and emergency response capabilities.

During a high-level review meeting, the minister directed officials to prepare detailed proposals and form a committee. He said the committee will finalise the project in consultation with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

The proposed institute will train personnel across departments and improve coordination during emergencies. It will also strengthen early warning systems to reduce risks.

Authorities plan to adopt scientific disaster management practices to minimise loss of life. The institute will play a central role in building capacity for disaster response.

Telangana disaster institute plan focuses on technology-driven response

Expanding the Telangana disaster institute plan, the government will procure advanced equipment to modernise disaster response. These include drones, real-time monitoring systems, and high-speed rescue boats.

Officials said the initiative will shift the State’s strategy from reactive relief to proactive preparedness. The plan aims to improve readiness before disasters occur rather than responding after damage.

The government expects the institute to position Telangana as a national model in disaster management. It also seeks to integrate technology into emergency operations at multiple levels.

Senior officials attended the review meeting. These included Special Chief Secretary for Disaster Management Dana Kishore, Director of Fire Services Vikram Singh, Hydraa Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, ICCC Director Kamal Hasan Reddy, and Additional Director General of Special Police Battalion Sanjay Jain.

The meeting focused on coordination among departments and the roadmap for implementing the institute.
