Telangana DCA busts illegal medical device unit, seizes stocks worth ₹4 lakh

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, busted the unlicensed manufacturing and sale of medical devices at a private firm in Raidurg, Serilingampally, and seized stocks worth ₹4 lakh.

Acting on credible information, officials of the Drugs Control Administration conducted a raid on February 3, 2026, at Bluesemi Research & Development Pvt. Ltd. In addition, the operation took place in coordination with officials of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).

During the raid, officers detected illegal manufacturing and sale of a medical device branded as “Patient Monitor (EYVA – Electronic Medical Device).” According to officials, the company claimed the device monitored human vital parameters.

Officials seized large quantities of the patient monitors along with user manuals and sales invoices. Overall, the seized stock was valued at approximately ₹4 lakh.

Medical devices falling under Risk Class A and Risk Class B categories mandatorily require a valid manufacturing licence in Form MD-5. Notably, the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, issues these licences under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.

However, the seized product falls under the definition of a medical device as per the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. Therefore, manufacturers must strictly comply with Quality Management System norms prescribed under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.

Licence mandatory for medical device manufacturing

Officials clarified that manufacturing medical devices without a licence violates statutory provisions. Moreover, such products may not meet quality standards and can pose serious risks to public health.

Drugs Inspectors D. Swetha Bindu of Gandipet and K. Anvesh of Shabad carried out the raid. Meanwhile, CDSCO Drugs Inspector M. Vikram from the Hyderabad Zone also participated in the operation.

Senior officers Anjum Abida, Deputy Director-II, and K. Anil Kumar, Assistant Director, Serilingampally, supervised the raid. Subsequently, authorities confirmed that further investigation would continue.

Officials said they would initiate legal action against all offenders involved. Under the law, manufacturing medical devices without a licence can attract imprisonment of up to five years.

Meanwhile, the Drugs Control Administration urged the public to report illegal drug or medical device activities. For this purpose, citizens can lodge complaints through the toll-free number 1800-599-6969, operational from 10.30 am to 5 pm on working days.
