Telangana on alert amid nationwide Covid uptick, 30-bed ward set up at Gandhi Hospital

Hyderabad: With Covid-19 cases once again surfacing in parts of the country, the Telangana Health Department has moved into a state of heightened readiness, setting up a dedicated 30-bed ward at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad.

The measure, described as precautionary, comes as part of broader efforts to monitor and respond to any potential outbreak within the state. According to health officials, while there is no immediate cause for alarm, preparedness is key.

Medical experts have noted that the current strain appears to be significantly weaker than earlier variants. “The clinical impact so far has been minimal,” said a senior doctor involved in the preparations, adding that hospitalisation rates remain very low.

Despite the low risk, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant, especially individuals with underlying health conditions or weakened immunity. The health department has also intensified surveillance and urged healthcare workers to maintain Covid-appropriate protocols.

Telangana has not reported a major spike yet, but officials stress that early preparation is essential to prevent any strain on the healthcare system should the situation escalate.
