HYDERABAD: The Cabinet expansion in Telangana has become a source of growing suspense, with the Congress government having completed over 150 days in office without fully constituting its Council of Ministers.
Although reports last month suggested that the Cabinet expansion was almost finalised, with even a date set for the swearing-in of new ministers, the Congress high command reportedly stalled the move at the last minute. This delay has continued to fuel anxiety among aspirants and deepen disappointment within the party ranks.
Amid this ongoing uncertainty, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief Mahesh Kumar Goud made significant remarks regarding the Cabinet expansion. Speaking to a news channel during the Bharat Summit in Hyderabad, Mahesh Kumar Goud stated that the new PCC committee would be formed in May. He acknowledged that various complex equations must be considered before filling the vacant positions.
He said that discussions on Cabinet expansion are ongoing and that the matter falls within the purview of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Highlighting the complexity, Goud pointed out that while there are six vacancies in the Cabinet, the number of aspirants far exceeds the available posts, making the process even more challenging. He expressed hope that the Cabinet expansion would be carried out in line with caste representations, but emphasised that multiple factors are intertwined.
Amid the latest political developments within the Telangana Congress, the question of whether the Cabinet expansion will happen soon has become a hot topic. Several leaders from various districts have been openly demanding Cabinet positions, while others are reportedly making direct appeals to the party high command. This has reportedly put the leadership in a dilemma.
As a result, senior Congress leaders are said to be leaning towards postponing the matter for some more time. Meanwhile, aspirants continue their lobbying efforts. The recent meeting between senior leader Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy and AICC affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan has also sparked interest.
With growing expectations among leaders on one side and persistent postponement by the high command on the other, widespread doubts remain about whether the Telangana Cabinet expansion will take place anytime soon.
