Hyderabad, January 29: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is scheduled to hold a meeting today at the Command Control Center in Banjara Hills to review the upcoming local body elections. The meeting will involve senior officials from the Panchayat Raj Department, Minister Seethakka, representatives from the State Election Commission, and the Chairman of the BC Dedication Commission.
The state has been under the administration of special officers in village panchayats for the past year. Additionally, the terms of Mandal Parishad Presidents (MPPs) and Zilla Parishad Chairpersons concluded seven months ago, leading to development activities being overseen by special officers. Aspirants for the position of sarpanch are keenly awaiting the government’s announcement regarding election dates.
The Congress government is currently awaiting the final report from the BC Dedication Commission, which has already been prepared. It is anticipated that this report will be presented to the Chief Minister during today’s review meeting. Following this, the government is expected to make a decision on reservations. Subsequently, the Election Commission is likely to issue a notification. Today’s meeting is expected to provide clarity on reservations and the conduct of local elections.
On January 26, the state government introduced four new welfare schemes: Raithu Bharosa, Indiramma Aathmiya Bharosa, Indiramma Houses, and new ration cards. Ministers and MLAs have been actively promoting these initiatives in villages, aiming to foster a positive environment among the populace. Party leaders believe that conducting local body elections during this period could be advantageous for the party.
