Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao will retire on 31 March 2026, concluding an extended tenure marked by fiscal leadership and administrative continuity.
A 1991-batch IAS officer of the Telangana cadre, Rao was granted a seven-month extension by the Centre. He took charge as Chief Secretary on 30 April 2025, following his stint as Special Chief Secretary for Finance.
Telangana Chief Secretary led key fiscal reforms
Rao, known for his expertise in public finance, oversaw the preparation of 14 state Budgets, including two vote-on-account budgets. His long career included roles such as Director General of the Centre for Good Governance and Collector in Adilabad and Guntur.
An alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi, Rao also holds an MBA in Investments. His tenure has been noted for a data-driven, technology-enabled approach to governance.
His retirement will mark the end of over three decades in public service, during which he played a pivotal role in shaping Telangana’s fiscal and administrative policies.
