Telangana to launch census house listing from May 11

Hyderabad: Telangana will begin census house listing from May 11 to June 9, thereby launching the first population enumeration exercise in the State since its formation.

The State Cabinet cleared the schedule, and consequently officials began administrative preparations. Authorities will conduct the census house listing entirely through an online app as part of the nationwide digital rollout.

Officials estimate that nearly 88,000 personnel will take part across Telangana. As of December 31, 2025, the State has 621 rural mandals, 9,983 revenue villages and 134 urban local bodies. Accordingly, officials will use these units as the base framework for enumeration.

In urban areas, officials will include cantonment zones and GHMC circles. Moreover, the government has assigned unique codes to each unit to streamline digital data collection.

Census house listing to cover villages and wards as basic units

Authorities completed national-level training earlier. From March 5 to 8, they will train 66 master trainers in Hyderabad. Thereafter, they will convene a meeting with district collectors to provide operational guidance.

The government has entrusted district collectors with identifying required personnel. In addition, officials will deploy teachers and staff from various departments at village and ward levels.

At the field level, departments will train around 1,220 employees drawn from different wings. They aim to complete all training programmes by April.

Each revenue village in rural regions and each ward in urban areas will function as a separate unit. Meanwhile, officials will assign one enumerator for every 800 people. Furthermore, trainers will focus on personnel unfamiliar with digital tools to ensure smooth app-based implementation.

After completing the census house listing phase, authorities will conduct the second stage of enumeration from February 9 to 28, 2027.
