Telangana Targets $3 Trillion Economy by 2047: Minister Tummala

Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Friday declared that Telangana is setting its sights on becoming a $3 Trillion economy by 2047, up from its current $200 billion. He said the upcoming “Telangana Rising Global Summit – 2025” will serve as the official launchpad for this transformative vision.

Agriculture to lead economic transformation

At a review meeting held in the Secretariat, the Minister described agriculture as the “core engine” of economic growth. He stated that the sector currently employs 66% of the rural population and contributes 17% to the state’s Gross State Value Added (GSVA).

Tummala emphasised key strategies including:

  • IoT-based micro-irrigation systems
  • Advanced agritech research
  • Horticulture mega clusters
  • Expansion of oil palm and dairy sectors
  • Global leadership in seed production
  • Strengthening FPO-market linkages
  • Modernised agri-logistics and storage

Boosting farmer incomes and exports

The Minister said the roadmap focuses on increasing farmers’ incomes, improving crop productivity, and expanding agricultural exports. “When agriculture grows, Telangana grows. Farmers’ labour is the foundation of the state’s development,” he said.

Schemes like Rythu Bharosa, Rythu Bheema, loan waivers, and crop compensation are already reinforcing rural livelihoods, he added.

Preparations for Global Summit

Tummala directed officials to prepare AV content and presentations for the Telangana Rising Global Summit that highlight the state’s agri-potential and reform agenda. Senior officials, including Agriculture Secretary Surendra Mohan and several university Vice-Chancellors, attended the review meeting.
