Teen girl leaves home after parents scold her over social media use

HYDERABAD: A teenage girl left home in Banjara Hills after being reprimanded by her parents for excessive use of social media, leading to a police case.

The incident occurred in Syednagar, Road No. 12, under the jurisdiction of Banjara Hills Police Station. The 16-year-old girl, who had dropped out after Class 7, had been staying at home and was reportedly engrossed in platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and WhatsApp for the past few years. According to her family, she would spend hours chatting and watching videos online.

Her parents, concerned by her behaviour, had confronted her multiple times and urged her to reduce her screen time. Despite repeated warnings, the girl reportedly did not change her habits.

Two days ago, her family once again advised her to stay away from social media and not become addicted. Upset by their remarks, the girl reportedly left home without informing anyone.

Following her disappearance, her family lodged a complaint with Banjara Hills Police, who have registered a case and begun an investigation.
