Task Force busts extortion gang, seizes illegal firearm

Hyderabad: Task Force officials busted an extortion gang in the city and arrested three persons for threatening victims using an illegal firearm.

The Commissioner’s Task Force, Golconda Zone, along with Masab Tank Police, carried out the operation based on credible inputs. Teams detained the accused and seized weapons and other material.

Police identified the main accused as Mohd Afroz Baig alias Shakeel, a real estate businessman based in Banjara Hills. His associates included Teljeri Balakishan alias Balraj and Bittu Kumar alias Raju.

Investigators said the accused targeted investors and individuals seeking repayment of money. They used threats and intimidation to extort cash.

The trio procured a country-made pistol and ammunition through illegal channels from Bihar. They then used the weapon to create fear and coerce victims.

During the operation, police seized a country-made pistol and 18 live rounds. In addition, teams recovered two magazines, a vehicle, mobile phones and a hockey stick.

Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Arms Act and BNS. Meanwhile, further investigation is in progress.
